Review:

Why I Picked It Up:

I picked up Before the Coffee Gets Cold during a spontaneous visit to a bookstore in India. I stumbled upon a colorful set with four books, each one with a different title and a unique color, yet all of them incredibly appealing. At the time, the final book in the series hadn't been released yet, so I still need to complete my collection. I thought it would be a great idea to start reviewing the first part. Since each book was released in a different year with decent gaps between them, I plan to review each book independently.

What I Like About the Book:

The beauty of this book lies in its simplicity—using simple words to convey incredibly deep emotions and scenes. It’s the kind of honesty that makes this book stand out. There is one paragraph that I particularly love, which I’d like to share here (avoiding any spoilers):

"Water flows from high places to low places. That is the nature of gravity. Emotions also seem to act according to gravity. When in presence of someone with whom you have a bond, and to whom you have entrusted your feelings, it is hard to lie and get away with it. The truth just wants to come flowing out. This is especially the case when you are trying to hide your sadness or vulnerability. It is much easier to conceal sadness from a stranger, or from someone you don't trust."

What Didn’t Work for Me:

Honestly, there's not much to criticize here.🙈

Finally, Is the Book Really Worth It?

Absolutely. It’s a meaningful read, and I’d recommend Before the Coffee Gets Cold to readers of all ages for its emotional depth and simple yet profound storytelling.💕💕

Publication Year: 2015

Awards:

"Before the Coffee Gets Cold" was originally a play that was later adapted into a novel, and it has been widely loved by Asian readers for its emotional depth. While it hasn't received major literary awards, I hope it gains more appreciation worldwide.
