Review:

***Spoiler Alert***

Why I picked it up :

I picked up Beneath a Scarlet Sky at a random book fair. It was one of those annual fairs where you get to take home as many books as you can fit into a box—paying for the box rather than each individual book. I remember spending between 2,000 to 3,000 Indian rupees for my box and ended up selecting 32 books that day. This book topped my list because the lead character, Pino Lella, is inspired by a real-life person.

What I Like About the Book :

Like many war stories, this book captures the despair and impact on people's lives. Instead of delving into that, I’d rather share my favorite lines, which I think will resonate with you and make you want to pick up the book:

  1. "The best thing is to grieve for the people you loved and lost, and then welcome and love the new people life puts in front of you."

  2. "We never know what will happen next, life is change, constant change, and unless we are lucky enough to find comedy in it, change is nearly always a drama, if not a tragedy." 💔

  3. "It all made Pino realize that the earth did not know war, that nature would go on no matter what horror one man might inflict on another. Nature didn't care a bit about men and their need to kill and conquer."

  4. "Someone very wise once told me that by opening our hearts, revealing our scars, we are made human and flawed and whole."💓💓

What Didn’t Work for Me:

Honestly, I don't have much to add here. I would recommend this book to almost everyone I discuss books with.

Finally, Is the Book Really Worth It?

Absolutely. It is a must-read.
